If you have been looking for a game you can play with your kids, parents, and grandparents that is loaded with so much fun, then you’re at the right place at the right time.

Hedbanz is a classic “yes or no” game that keeps you guessing to figure out whether the card on your headband is either a food, animal or thing.

In this game, each of the players will draw a card without looking at the content and stick this card to their headbands.

Three scoring badges will be assigned to individual players and after every correct guess, you stick a scoring badge onto your headband.

How to Play Hedbanz Rules and Instructions

The headband is a plastic strip that is about 26” long, but they are adjustable and come with a slot you can slip a card into.

Each card has a different object written on it. To win the game, you attempt to become the first to name three cards correctly to earn the badges.

Get yourself prepared as everyone tries to find out what’s written on the card in their headbands.

It’s easy to narrow down the possibilities with the 3 classes (animal, object, food) given. However, then, it’s the basic details that will make you race against the timer.

It would help if you were quick with your questions and smart with your ideas to win.

Game Objective

Be the first player to travel around the board completely when you guess the content of your Hedbanz correctly.

Hedbanz Rules & Requirements

Certain components must be available to play this game. They include 24 chips, 6 headbands, 3 question cards, 72 photo cards, 1 instruction slip, and a timer.

Starting the Game

Get a comfortable spot to play the game.
Put the cards in the center of the playing spot and ensure they are facing down for no one to see what is on it.
Each player takes a headband and ties it around their head, making sure the Hedbanz logo is placed above the eyebrows and positioned at the center of your forehead.
Allocate to each player one card facing down and 3 chips.
Then, put the remaining cards turned down and chips by one side. The remaining chips become the ‘chip bank’.
Without looking at the image on the card, insert the card in the clip on your headband so that other players can see the image on the card, except you.
Players take a turn; the youngest plays first and passes to the left.
Once it’s your turn to play, turn over the timer and begin to ask the players a yes or no question that will help you categorize the image on your head.

Note that you can only ask “yes,” “no,” “could be,” or “I don’t know” questions.

For instance: “Can I fly?” “Do I have legs?“ etc.

Also, you can ask, “Am I a …….?” when you think you know the correct answer.

The moment you can get the image right before the minute is up, pick another card immediately and place it on your headband, without looking at the content of the card.

Keep on asking questions until the timer runs out. Each time you provide a correct answer, remove one chip from your headband and put it in the chip bank.

Then the next player takes a turn from here. The game ends, and the winner emerges when a player is the first to get rid of their chips.

Sorting and Categorizing the Cards

Cards are sort by the category they belong, such as Animals, Things, Bugs, and Food.

Always try out fewer concrete categories like things you could use to make a castle; things that you can embark on a journey with; things that you have in your home or around you.

Using Prepositions

Cards can be used to make silly sentences about prepositions. Prepositions such as OVER, UNDER, BY, & ON can be used. You can place a card with an animal, say dog, over ice cream card, and then form a sentence that says, “The dog is BY the ice cream.”

Compare and Contrast

Pick two cards and place them side by side. It is always better with cards from the same class; otherwise, the level of difficulty is increased when the cards are not closely linked.

Engage the child by talking about things that make things similar and different. Draw a table of similarities and differences, and make the child assign them to where they belong accordingly.

Articulation

Phrases such as “I am a…” found at the top of each card makes the game outstanding for fluency enhancement.

You can have the child pick up a card and read the content.

Arrange the cards into two piles; those phrases that were fluent and the ones that are not.

Talk about the disfluencies when they occur and leave them feeling proud as their fluent card pile up.

Ways Hedbanz Adds Values to Players

Enhances your creative thinking. Although the cards used in the game are made quite simple, but the fun part is actually when you have to pin down what your card is. Questions asked by players must be well thought out; for instance, when you ask your opponent this, “Am I smaller than a toaster?” With such questions, you get a better idea of what your card could actually be other than just asking “Am I small?”.

Improves expressive vocabulary. All the cards represent many common foods, animals, and household items. So when your child interact with other players, they are faced with a huge opportunity for them to add to their vocabulary.

Superb for building listening comprehension and working memory. Although to figure out what card you really carry, many questions must be asked. Kids in the process tend to remember all the answers they have been provided with and connect those clues together to find the correct answer.
